Hey friends!

You know how the kitchen is basically the heart of the home, right? It’s where we gather, eat, chat, and now, create! If you’ve been following along, you know we’re in the middle of a big kitchen reno at my place. But today, I want to share an incredible transformation done by Lia Watson from Southern Yankee DIY. Lia decided to give her parents' pantry kitchen a little love. This space has been her dad's culinary playground, and trust me, those countertops have seen better days!
In collaboration with Retique It, Lia took on the challenge of transforming these old laminate countertops into gorgeous, wood-look surfaces using our amazing Wood’N Finish Countertop Kit.

Today, I’m super excited to share with you the steps and tips Lia used to make this transformation happen!

Supplies:
- Denatured alcohol or Krud Kutter
- Sanding block
- Retique It Barn Wood Countertop Kit (includes Light Wood'N Primer, Barn Wood Wood'N Stain, Pecan Gel Stain Alternative, and Tripletique Topcoat in Satin)

Steps to Painting Laminate Countertops to Look Like Wood:

1. Preparing the Surface:

First things first, make sure the surface is squeaky clean. Lia used denatured alcohol or Krud Kutter to give those countertops a good scrub. Once they were clean, she lightly sanded the surface with a sanding block to help the paint stick.

2. Applying the Retique It Light Wood'N Primer:

Our patented Liquid Wood coatings are a game-changer! They contain over 60% recycled wood fibers, making them a super sustainable choice. Lia started by applying 2 to 3 coats of the Light Wood'N Primer, allowing each coat to dry for 2 hours. If you're in a hurry, you can use a blow dryer on high heat to speed up the drying process.

3. Creating the Wood Grain with Barn Wood Wood'N Stain:

Once the primer was dry, it was time for the fun part – creating the wood grain! Lia used the Barn Wood Wood'N Stain and graining tools to achieve the desired wood look. She let it dry for about 2 hours.

4. Adding More Barn Wood Wood'N Stain:

After the wood grain had dried, Lia brushed on a few more coats of the Barn Wood Wood'N Stain to deepen the color and texture.

5. (Optional) Accenting with Pecan Gel Stain Alternative:

For added depth and richness, you can apply a few coats of the Pecan Gel Stain Alternative. Lia opted not to use this step in this project, but it’s a great option if you want a more complex finish.

6. Sealing with Tripletique Topcoat:

Finally, Lia sealed her masterpiece with a few coats of the Satin Tripletique Topcoat, allowing each coat to dry for an hour. This topcoat not only protects the countertops but also adds a beautiful, subtle sheen.
