Step-by-Step Instructions
Wood Finish Garage Door
Prep It
- Wipe Down with denatured alcohol mixed with water or with Krud Kutter®
- If the surface is slick, lightly scuff up with a fine grit sandpaper

Pressure Wash or Wash the surface with Dawn® Dish Soap and rinse thoroughly
with warm water until the surface is squeaky clean
Prime It
- Brush, roll or spray on 2 coats of
- Make final strokes long in the direction you want the grain
- Clean your brush/equipment while you give the project 2 hours to dry completely.

If you are limited on time, then use a blow dryer.
(Dry time may take as little as 5 minutes with the use of a blow dryer on high heat)
Grain It
This step is optional
If you want a smooth finish, you can skip this step. Your brush strokes will make a subtle grain.
Brush on a thin coat of Wood'n Stain Included in kit
in plank size sections.
Pull the graining tool through Included in kit
while coat is still wet. If you don't like the grain, apply another coat of Wood'n Stain over that section and
grain it over again. Repeat this step until you like the grain.
Allow 2 hours to dry
You can use a blow dryer to speed up dry time to a little as 5 minutes.
Stain It
This step is optional
Brush on 1 to 3 coats of Wood'n Stain included in kit
Make your final swipes long in the direction you want the grain.
Each coat will make the finish less rustic.
Reminder: Do not wipe back the stain like other stains, Just brush it on, it's
that easy.
Allow 2 hours to dry

Wipe on a coat of Gel Stain Alternative included in kit
Make your final swipes long in the direction you want the grain.
Use a lint free cloth, staining sponge, old sock or t-shirt to apply the stain.

If you ordered a kit that does not include the top coat, then you must make sure the topcoat you use is appropriate for the project. (Interior, exterior, high traffic, etc.)
- Apply thin layers of your topcoat until you finish the entire container
- Allow two hours between coats if you are using a Retique It waterbased topcoat
- Follow directions for dry time on any other brand of topcoat
- Retique It will only support the use of our brand of topcoats
